How It Works

Four simple steps to clean water

Pour water in

You pour dirty water into the top of the unit through a simple opening. No pipes or plumbing needed.

Hydrogel soaks it up

The hydrogel inside the unit absorbs the water and traps harmful germs and heavy metals. It works like a sponge that also cleans.

Sun does the work

Sunlight heats the hydrogel through a glass cover. The water turns into vapour, leaving the dirt behind. A small solar-powered light keeps working even after sunset.

Clean water collects

The vapour turns back into clean liquid water and flows by gravity into a container. Ready to drink.

The Material

What makes the hydrogel special?

The hydrogel is made from chitosan — a natural material found in shellfish shells. It is biodegradable and safe for the environment. When combined with another material called polypyrrole, it forms a soft, sponge-like material that soaks up dirty water while trapping germs and heavy metals inside.

When sunlight hits the hydrogel through the glass cover, it heats up and turns the water into vapour. The vapour rises, leaves the contaminants behind, and then cools down to become clean drinking water. The whole process is natural, chemical-free, and uses no electricity.
